Face and Neck Lifting

The planning of your lifting begins in the first consultation where an evaluation will be made of your face, the elasticity of the skin, the state of the facial muscles and the bony structures, as well as the position of your eyebrows. Depending on the results you seek, all the surgical possibilities will be made known to you to achieve the desired goal since  several procedures  may be necessary. You will be explained the techniques, the type of anesthesia to be used and which areas of your face the surgery will be performed. Do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have, especially those related to your expectations and results desired. Dr. Jorge Galván will provide specific instructions on how to prepare for surgery, for example: which food and fluids to eat, intake of medicines or vitamins, how to cleanse the face and neck for the intervention. If you are smoker, what you must do to minimize the risks in the operation. It is important to stop smoking at least one or two weeks before your face and neck lift in Mexico.

What is a facelift?

A facelift is performed in a hospital or clinic since it's a surgical intervention that requires a specially equipped room for this procedure, taking into account all security measures. In the first place, a thorough preoperative study must be carried out to assess the suitability of the intervention and specify what the surgery will be like. Usually hospitalization is at least 24 hours after the surgery, which can be done under local anesthesia and sedation or with general anesthesia, depending on the complexity of the lifting and the patient's condition.

The surgery usually lasts between 3 and 4 hours. The steps of the surgery can vary, depending on the exact placement of the incisions, according to the facial structure and the technique used. Our techniques are usually with minimum incisions,  Dr. Galván will make a minimal incision on the scalp / the hairline to and around the ear lobe, this way the scar will be camouflaged and will not be visible.

To achieve this facial rejuvenation the lifting is based, not only on tightening the outer skin but also the deeper structures, The muscle layers, skin and fat are re-positioned, tightening the facial muscles and removing all excess tissue. Once the procedure is finished, the incisions are stitched.  In many cases,  it is advisable to complement this facelift with a blepharoplasty; thus, eliminate the excess skin on the upper eyelids.

The patient leaves the operating room with dressings and bandages on the head, and with a drainage system to prevent accumulation of exudate or blood, which will be removed the next day. Despite the fact that the facelift is one of the most complex facial surgeries, it is performed regularly with little risk or side effects, and spectacular natural results are achieved without visible scars, thus improving the appearance of your face with a younger and fresher look.

There are different types of face lifts,  ranging from a lift of the forehead and eyebrows, to a stretch of the entire skin and musculature of the face and neck, altought other techniques may work on jaws and cheekbones, depending on each patient's need. The fat can be removed or liposuction around the neck and chin can be performed to improve the facial contour, This can be injected in other areas to improve certain structures as is the case of the cheekbones.
